Our clever friends at Google have finally ended months of online speculation
and rumour by announcing the new release name for the latest version of
their Android mobile operating system.

Following "Ice Cream Sandwich" and "Jelly Bean" — and acknowledging the fact that most people now have their breaks on phones and tablets — the world’s first co-branded operating system will be called Android Kitkat! This new codename for Android 4.4 maintains the technology giant's habit of naming each version of its mobile operating system
after different types of snacks.

More than 50 million specially branded KitKat bars will be made available in 19 markets, including the US, UK, Canada and Brazil. The news coincided with Google's announcement that the Android operating system has hit 1 billion activations, an increase of 100 million
since the last activation figures were disclosed in May.

The co-branding exercise, which did not involve any exchange of money, is designed to build on the global appeal of both brands. As part of the JWTnetwork, we're hugely proud
to have been an intrinsic part of developing this partnership.
